The 4 Objectives:
You must complete all 4 of these objectives during the 6-week challenge period to successfully complete this challenge and win a share of the $600. Documentation of completion of each objective must be turned in at the end of the challenge.1) Average 10,000 steps per day: Participants will aim to maintain an average of 10,000 steps per day throughout the challenge period. This means you don’t have to hit 10,000 steps every single day—lower-step days can be balanced out by taking more steps on other days. As long as your overall daily average reaches 10,000 steps, you’ve met the objective.
To help you stay on track, steps can be monitored using a smartwatch or smartphone. Most modern devices automatically record step counts:
- iPhone users can track steps through the built-in Apple Health app or an Apple Watch.
- Android users can use Google Fit or other built-in health apps, as well as Wear OS smartwatches.
- Many popular fitness trackers (Garmin, Fitbit, etc.) also integrate seamlessly with your phone.
Use whichever device you’re comfortable with to keep an eye on your progress and stay motivated as you work toward your daily step average!
2) Liquid Calorie Limit: Participants will aim to consume no more than 50 calories per day from liquids. The purpose of this goal is to encourage healthier drink choices and reduce intake of sugary sodas, sweetened teas, energy drinks, and alcoholic beverages. Keeping liquid calories low supports better hydration and helps avoid unnecessary added sugars.
A small allowance of up to 50 calories is included to accommodate coffee creamers, protein shake additives, or trace calories in low-calorie beverages. The primary focus is to drink plenty of water and avoid sugary drinks whenever possible.
If a participant is under medical instruction to consume liquid calories for health reasons, appropriate exceptions can be made. Your health needs always come first.
3) Pre-body composition (Height, Weight, Age, Gender, BF%, BMI): This can be completed at Burgess Fitness Center from the time you sign up until Friday, January 23th at 12:00 PM. Body Composition Hours are Mon-Thurs 8AM-9PM and Fri 8AM-12PM. If you cannot make it during these hours or work at a satellite campus and commuting to Booneville is inconvenient for you, please email rdwalker@nemcc.edu to set up an appointment so that this can be completed. Accommodations can and will be made. You will receive a free Burgess t-shirt for completing this objective.
4) Post-body composition (Height, Weight, Age, Gender, BF%, BMI): This can be completed at Burgess Fitness Center from Monday, February 23rd until Friday, February 27th at 12:00 PM.
Winners/Prizes:

The male and female that loses the most body fat percentage during the challenge will win $100 each. Participants must also complete the 8 out of 10 health objectives to be eligible to win the $100 bonus.
