Privacy Statement

Northeast Mississippi Community College is committed to providing privacy of personal information for our community to the fullest extent permitted by law. Northeast Mississippi Community College will not disclose a community members’ protected information to third parties or government agencies, without consent, unless required by law.

Data Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer, to third parties, personally identifiable information unless we provide notice to the individual(s). This does not include partners and other parties who assist us in operating our websites, conducting our business, or servicing the Northeast community, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others’ rights, property, or safety. However, non-personally identifiable information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.

Some personal information, such as students' educational records, is protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Refer to Northeast Mississippi Community College policy relating to Student Educational Records for more detail. In addition to all other types of records, FERPA applies to information collected via the Internet as well, and would include information gathered from web-based course registration.

Data Collection

Some areas of our website collect personal information for the purposes of:

  • Authentication: Programs that require registration utilize a login name and password to authenticate returning users.
  • Identification: Some forms on our website or partner websites ask for personal information such as name or email address. Such information is voluntary unless otherwise noted on the form. However, not providing any contact information will likely make it impossible for us to respond to an individual.
  • Statistical Usage: Some pages on our website record the accessing computer's IP address and information about the system and web browser. This collection is done in order to provide statistical data on the use of this website and help build strategic plans for improvements.

Data Provided from Partners

Northeast Mississippi Community College will, from time-to-time, partner with companies that provide contact information and other personal information to Northeast. We will use this information to communicate with, and possibly market to, the individuals that provided this information to said third party. However, Northeast will not disclose said information for any reason that is not in line with Northeast's mission.

Text Messaging

Northeast Mississippi Community College uses text messaging to provide timely and important updates to students. These messages include information related to the student experience as well as important emergency alerts from the College.

You have the option to opt out of messaging at any time. Simply reply "STOP" to any message you receive from the College. This will notify our systems that you no longer wish to receive messages from the College.

Please note that our TigerAlert Emergency Notification system, which provides timely alerts in the event of an emergency on campus, also relies partially on text messaging to deliver these notices.

General messaging and emergency messaging use separate numbers to send messages. You may choose to opt out of one or both.
