Election Guidelines
Class Favorites/Who’s Who Elections
Directions for nominating:
- Freshmen must nominate Freshmen (may nominate 3 or less girls & 3 or less guys)
- Sophomore must nominate Sophomore (may nominate 3 or less girls & 3 or less guys)
- Must use your NE ID and NE e-mail address
Who is eligible to run:
- A freshman is defined as a student who has completed less than 30 semester hours
- A sophomore is defined as a student who has completed 30 or more hours
- Anyone nominated must be a full-time student (enrolled in 12 or more hours)
- Any student nominated must have a 2.0 GPA
- Students are not eligible to run if they have attended NE for more than four semesters
- A student may only represent their class one time
- Students nominated must not be on academic or social probation
SGA Officer Elections
The president, vice president, and secretary shall be elected prior to the end of the spring term. At the time of the election, all of these officers must be enrolled in their second regular semester. Candidates for the office of president, vice-president, or secretary must have a 2.5 grade point average either as a full-time vocational student or as an academic or technical student carrying 12 academic hours. Prospective candidates for these offices must file the necessary forms with the Associate Dean of Students Student Activities Director. The Associate Dean of Students/Student Activities Director will review these forms and prospective applicants meeting the requirements are then eligible to campaign for the office in which the have qualified.
The election for the office of president, vice-president, and secretary will consist of a general election to be held prior to the end of the spring term. The students receiving the greatest number of votes in the election will become the Student Government Officers for the next school year.
In the event any elected officer should fail to return his/her sophomore year, there will be an election as stated in Article IV, Section 2 of the Student Government Association Constitution.
Homecoming Court Guidelines
The court will consist of six (6) freshman maids, six (6) sophomore maids, and a homecoming queen. All students selected must be enrolled full-time and must not be on academic or social probation.
Freshman Maids
A freshman is defined as a student who has completed less than 30 semester hours.
Sophomore Maids
A sophomore is defined as any student who has completed 30 semester hours. Students in 5th semester may not be on ballot, excluding summer and dual-enrolled semesters.
Vocational Students
A freshman student is defined as one who has not successfully completed two or more semesters. A sophomore is defined as a student who has completed two or more semesters, but no more than four.
NOTE: A person can only represent her class one (1) time.
Election
On selected dates(s), all students will be allowed to nominate three (3) students to be on the ballot for the homecoming court. The student may be either a freshman or a sophomore. All eligible freshmen receiving one (1) nomination will be placed on the freshman ballot. All eligible sophomores receiving one (1) nomination will be placed on the sophomore ballot.
After the first freshman ballot, the top eleven (11) students plus the minority student receiving the greatest vote will be placed on the runoff ballot. Should one or more minority students be in the eleven (11) highest, then the twelfth (12th) student will be added to the runoff ballot (more in case of a tie).
After the first sophomore ballot, the highest thirteen (13) students plus the highest minority student will be added to the runoff ballot. Should one or more minority students be in the thirteen (13), then the fourteenth (14th) student will be added to the ballot (more in case of a tie).
In the final election, the top five (5) freshman students plus the minority student receiving the greatest vote will be elected as freshman maids. If one or more minority students are included in the top five (5), then the sixth (6th) girl will be elected.
In the final election for sophomore maids, the highest six (6) girls will be elected to the court plus the minority student receiving the greatest vote. Should one or more minority students be included in the top six (6), the seventh (7th) girl will be a sophomore maid. The two (2) top sophomore students will be placed on a runoff ballot for Homecoming Queen.
In the freshman maids contest, ALL STUDENTS may vote for six or less. In the sophomore contest, ALL STUDENTS may vote for seven or less. In the Homecoming Queen contest, ALL STUDENTS may vote for one.
