Impact Scholarship Program
A Simple Idea Becoming a Transformative Movement
What is the Impact Scholarship Program?
Told through the eyes of anonymous donors who have experienced the results of a life recognizing and accepting the love of Jesus and giving forgiveness to others.
It started with a simple idea shared by a husband and wife: What if low‑income students—those who rarely qualify for traditional scholarships—could earn support simply by writing a short essay about the teacher who most shaped their life?
No long applications. Just gratitude, reflection, and a chance to honor a teacher who mattered.
The plan was modest. Twenty scholarships. One community college. That was it. There was no thought—none—of expanding beyond that first campus.
But something unexpected happened.
A Unique Idea Meets an Extraordinary Partner
When the donors approached one community college, they discovered two things immediately:
- No one had ever offered a scholarship centered on honoring a teacher in this way.
- Most scholarships were tied to a single college and stayed there.
Then they met the development team at Northeast Mississippi Community College—enthusiastic, talented, and deeply committed to students. This team instantly understood the power of the idea and poured their energy into launching the pilot.
The response stunned everyone.
- Students wrote far more essays than expected—heartfelt, grateful, deeply personal.
- Teachers were moved to tears by the recognition.
- Administrators saw a new way to strengthen the bridge between high schools and community colleges.
The donors realized they had tapped into something bigger than a scholarship. They had sparked a movement.
Growth the Donors Never Imagined
In Year Two, the development team approached the donors with a bold question: “Would you consider expanding to a second college?”
The team even offered to support the new campus themselves. The donors said yes.
Then came Year Three—and everything accelerated.
- 14 additional community colleges joined.
- 16 colleges total across three states.
- Over 2,000 essays submitted.
- 330 scholarships awarded.
The donors stretched. The development team stretched. And the momentum kept building.
What began as a small, local idea had become a multi‑state force for good.
A Vision That Now Reaches Far Beyond the Original Dream
As the program grew, so did its mission. Together, the donors and development leaders built a broader ecosystem:
- Academic Excellence Awards for top first‑year students
- Emergency micro‑grants to keep vulnerable students enrolled
- “Next Chapter” Scholarships for high school students improving elementary reading scores
- Career exploration programs (now in development)
Every new layer reinforced the same belief: Students thrive when someone believes in them—and teachers deserve to be honored for the lives they shape.
A Dream Worth Sharing
Today, the development team and donors hold a dream far larger than the one they started with:
What if 1,000 community colleges offered 20,000 Impact Scholarships? What if 200,000 students each year wrote essays honoring 200,000 teachers? What if gratitude became a national movement?
The founding donors have funded every scholarship to date. They have stretched their resources (will continue to do so) and their imagination. Now, they are inviting others to join them.
Because this is no longer just their idea. It’s a growing, joyful, deeply human movement—one that is ready to reach thousands more students and teachers across the country.
Your partnership can help make that vision real. Together, we can honor great teachers, lift determined students, and build a scholarship model that transforms lives at a scale once unimaginable.
Honoring the Impact: Beyond the Scholarship
The Impact Scholarship Program extends its recognition far beyond financial aid by honoring the exceptional educators who shape our students’ futures. We take immense pride in celebrating the “Impact Teacher” identified by each scholarship recipient—those who have made a profound difference through their mentorship and dedication. To formally recognize these educators, the superintendent and principal of each teacher’s school district are personally contacted and invited to a special luncheon on the Booneville campus of Northeast Mississippi Community College. This event serves as a powerful tribute to the incredible influence teachers have on their students’ lives, fostering a spirit of appreciation that inspires our entire community.
