Today, that vision is carried forward by President Dr. Ricky G. Ford, Vice President of Finance Chris D. Murphy, Vice President of Instruction Dr. Michelle A. Baragona, and Instructional Technology Specialist Dr. Carlena M. Benjamin, with a permanent seat honoring Mr. Powell’s enduring legacy and transformative impact.

In Memoriam

Jeffrey D. Powell (1976-2020) was Northeast Mississippi Community College’s first Instructional Technology Specialist and was the primary catalyst in bringing technology to the college. During his tenure at Northeast, Jeffrey served in various roles that included the college’s Webmaster, Technology Specialist, Help Desk Coordinator, Apple Distinguished Educator, and the Northeast Career Development Academy director.

Photo of Jeffrey PowellOne of Jeffrey’s proudest accomplishments at Northeast was being the founder of the Mobile Learning Conference - one of the southeast’s largest conferences that focus on technology in the classroom for not only K-12 but also for higher education. Jeffrey was named the first recipient of the Olan E. Ray Award at the Creating Futures Through Technology Conference for his contributions to technology in the classroom throughout the state of Mississippi.

Jeffrey will be forever missed at Northeast. The college is committed to keeping his legacy alive by pushing the boundaries with technology and always moving forward to increase the opportunities for the students of northeast Mississippi and worldwide.
