Dr. Kristy Church, Associate Degree Nursing Instructor
Dr. Kristy Church
Associate Degree Nursing Instructor
April 2026 Honoree
This award honors individuals who go above and beyond to support others, and Dr. Church’s impact on her students is nothing short of extraordinary.
As shared in her nomination, “Dr. Church is always willing to help her students and any others in need! I am beyond blessed to have had her as a nursing instructor.” That willingness to serve is paired with a deep sense of purpose and passion. “She goes above and beyond for all of her students and demonstrates respect, dignity, and a passion for her profession and NE.”
Her classroom is more than a place of instruction, it’s a place of encouragement, growth, and support.
“I’ve cried in her room, and so have many other students.”
Moments like that speak volumes. Dr. Church creates an environment where students feel safe, supported, and motivated to keep going, even on their hardest days. “She is constantly encouraging and pushing for you to succeed!”
Her impact extends far beyond lectures and clinicals. “Dr. Church is always willing to help, even taking time out of her day and her responsibilities to direct and guide the future nurses she is creating.” That level of commitment shapes not only strong students, but compassionate healthcare professionals.
Congratulations, Dr. Kristy Church, on being named this month’s Northeast Way Award recipient. Your compassion, dedication, and unwavering support are making a lasting difference in the lives of your students every single day.
Britney Whitley, Associate Vice President of the Student Success Center
Britney Whitley
Associate Vice President of the Student Success Center
March 2026 Honoree
This award celebrates individuals who create a positive and welcoming environment within our NEMCC community and Britney exemplifies that every single day.
As shared in her nomination, “Being new to this role has presented challenges and learning curves for both of us as we have learned new digital platforms, numerous pathway requirements for graduation, financial aid protocols, and overall requirements and expectations for our positions.” During a season filled with questions and adjustments, Britney provided more than answers, she provided patience and encouragement.
One moment especially stood out to the nominator. “I once told her, ‘I want to say thank you for being so patient and helpful with all of our questions. I’m sure it has to be a lot.’” Britney responded with a smile, “Well that’s my job!”
That intentional kindness extends beyond her colleagues to the students she serves. “Any time I see a student walk out of our Success Center, you more often than not can audibly hear their gratitude while also seemingly visibly seeing weights lifted off of their shoulders.” That kind of impact doesn’t happen by accident, it happens through compassionate leadership.
Her leadership leaves a lasting impression: “Britney signifies what it means to be a good leader, a good employee, and an all-around positive person to be around.” And perhaps most telling of all, “I can genuinely say I feel more prepared to do this job knowing Britney has all of our backs.”
Gina Bray, Financial Aid Associate
Gina Bray
Financial Aid Associate
February 2026 Honoree
For many students, navigating college can feel overwhelming, deadlines, paperwork, and life all colliding at once. But for those who have crossed paths with Gina, there’s a sense of relief that comes from knowing someone truly has their back.
As a member of the Financial Aid team, Gina’s role is rooted in helping students access critical resources, but her impact reaches far beyond forms and funding. One student nominator shared, “Gina always goes out of her way to speak to me and make sure everything is going smoothly during the school year.”
And that care doesn’t stop when the workday ends.
“She has helped me many times, even when she wasn’t at work.”
Known for her positivity and steady presence, Gina is someone students can turn to when things feel uncertain.
“I know I can go to her if I’m having issues, and she’ll do her best to fix it for me.”
For this student, Gina’s support went beyond financial aid, it was about feeling seen, supported, and cared for as a person.
“She has helped me with more than just financial aid.”
That kind of compassion is the heart of the Northeast Way, showing up, following through, and genuinely caring for the people you serve.

Callie Stanley, Dual Enrollment Coordinator
Callie Stanley
Dual Enrollment Coordinator
January 2026 Honoree
Sometimes, the difference between stress and success comes down to one person willing to say, “Let me help.” For one student, that person was Callie Stanley.
As the Dual Enrollment Coordinator at Northeast, Callie works behind the scenes to help high school students navigate college-level coursework. But when a student reached out just days before a short nine-week term was set to begin, after exhausting every available option at their high school and beyond, Callie didn’t hesitate.
“I explained my situation, and within less than 24 hours, she had me registered for two dual enrollment virtual courses.”
Psychology. Speech. Two classes. One solution and a future changed.
Because of Callie’s quick action and steady guidance, the student not only stayed on track academically but went on to graduate as Valedictorian of the 2024 Lafayette High School class.
“The process was easy and seamless. Without her help, I would not have qualified for the honor.”
When it came time for transcripts to be submitted, a complicated process outside of NEMCC, Callie continued to advocate long after her official role was complete. She worked alongside the Records Office to ensure grades were processed correctly so the student received full credit toward their final GPA.
“She didn’t have to help me at that point, but she did. She made sure I had everything I needed.”
Though all communication took place over email and phone, the impact was deeply personal.
“Ms. Stanley was the absolute best person I encountered at NEMCC. She was personable, friendly, responsive, and incredibly efficient.”
“From my interaction with her, it’s clear she loves her job and truly advocates for high school students.”
That dedication, responsiveness, and genuine care is what the Northeast Way Award is all about, meeting students where they are and going the extra mile to help them succeed.
Ziggy Marro, Head Athletic Trainer
Ziggy Marro
Head Athletic Trainer
December 2025 Honoree
Every campus has people who make it feel like home, whose presence changes the atmosphere, who show up with consistency, compassion, and quiet strength. At Northeast, that person is Ziggy Marro.
As Head Athletic Trainer, Ziggy’s role focuses on student-athlete health, but those who know him say his impact reaches far beyond the sidelines. His nominator shared, “Ziggy demonstrates kindness every single day on and off the practice field.” He helps student-athletes not only recover physically but navigate everyday challenges, too. “He’s someone I can talk to about anything,” the student said. “He never makes you feel like your problems are too small.”
Ziggy’s influence stretches into career guidance as well. “He helps students figure out what they want to do with their lives. He always pushes us to find what we enjoy and what we’re good at.” His support extends beyond campus, often stepping in when community members reach out during moments of concern or injury. His nominator noted, “People trust Ziggy. They know he’ll help, no matter the time or situation.”
And for his student nominator, the impact is deeply personal:
“He’s been like a second father to me.”
“When I needed advice, he listened.”
“When I didn’t know what to do, he pointed me in the right direction.”
That steady, genuine care is exactly what the Northeast Way Award celebrates. And every day, Ziggy Marro exemplifies it.

Her nominator, a longtime friend and community member, described her as “a great person in and out of the classroom” a simple statement that speaks volumes about who she is. Robbie doesn’t just teach lessons she builds relationships, encouraging each student to do their best and reminding them that they have someone in their corner who believes in them.

For more than three decades, Georgie has been a guiding light for students, walking alongside them from their very first visit to the moment they find their place as a Tiger.
Her colleague, who nominated her for the Northeast Way Award, described her as “the epitome of a servant leader”, someone whose kindness never clocks out. One story in particular captures her heart perfectly. When a student arrived on campus struggling to get registered, Georgie didn’t just point them in the right direction; she sat down beside them, helped track down their transcript after the school had closed, and personally walked them to Financial Aid. She stayed by their side until every detail was handled, even showing them exactly where to go for their first class.
That’s the Northeast Way, and Georgie lives it every single day.
“She never lets a student leave campus without getting everything possible taken care of,” her nominator shared. “She’s caring, she follows up with parents and students, and she’s determined to help every person she meets succeed.”

She’s a second mother to me, everything I hope to be in both my professional and personal life.”
There’s no question, Georgie Carroll is one of the reasons Northeast feels like home. Tireless, compassionate, and devoted to others, she embodies the spirit of our campus family. As her nominator put it best, “She truly is the G.O.A.T. (the Greatest of All Time.)”

Whether she’s walking students through programs or sitting down one-on-one to plan schedules, Carrie goes far beyond her job title; she creates a home for students at Northeast.
“She never made my students or anyone in the Adult Education program feel ‘less than.’ She gave them confidence and made them feel like they were part of the Northeast family.”
