In April 2012, faculty, staff, and students were provided two workshops presented by Corinne Hoisington, a professor of Information Systems Technology at Central Virginia Community College in Lynchburg, VA.

Can’t Wait for Windows 8 & Office 15 featured the coming out party of Windows 8 and Office 2015 which totally changes the definition of a Windows operating system and Office suite. Releasing in October 2012, Windows 8 has tossed out the concept of icons and moved to dramatic touch-centric tiles. Professor Hoisington introduced the new design of the first Windows 8 slate computers that will optimize new features such as geo-location services, Windows apps, cloud computing tie-in, and multitasking enhancements.
The Mobile Movement – iPad and Beyond featured the explosive developments in digital technologies which are bringing new mobile devices to the marketplace. These devices are continually transforming the way we live, work, and learn. Professor Hoisington explained that today’s students are surrounded by such devices as smartphones, iPads, slate devices, tablet computers, gaming devices, and netbooks – all of which are constantly evolving to provide more features and capabilities. She gave examples of opportunities these devices offer for learning in and outside of the classroom.
