NEMCC to Host Annual Marching Band Championship

Northeast Mississippi Community College’s “Showband from Tigerland” will host some of the best high school bands in the region at the thirty-fifth annual Northeast Regional Marching Band Championship Saturday, October 21 at Tiger Stadium.
“The event is always very well supported by the community. We’re looking forward to having another great crowd on campus again this year, said Northeast director of bands Bryan Mitchell.”

Last fall the Booneville High School band claimed the Grand Championship and the 6A/5A/4A (combined) Sweepstakes Winner’s trophy.  The 1A/2A/3A (combined) Sweepstakes winner was Calhoun City High School.

Competition is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with gates opening at noon.  Admission is $7. Children under kindergarten age will be admitted free.  Concessions will be available.

High school bands scheduled to participate are Baldwyn, Booneville, Bruce, East Webster, Itawamba AHS, Mantachie, New Albany, Ripley, Senatobia, Smithville, South Pontotoc, Shannon and Winona. 

Booneville High School will perform in exhibition.
Northeast’s “Showband from Tigerland” will perform in exhibition at approximately 5:15 p.m. Following the retreat (band representatives report to field) and a brief exhibition by the Northeast Drumline, the awards presentation is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
